Octavio Paz: The union of the body, the universe and the divine
Abstract
From the study of a thought that is based is the mystic tradition, this paper
aims to expose how literary expressions appear in the work of Octavio
Paz, where the spiritual search of the world connects with the search
for a poetic meaning inherent to it. Thus, the hypothesis that we will see
developed here is that the sacred component in Paz’s poetry, ceases to
be linked to strictly dogmatic and religious spheres and, starting from a
primordial attention to the body as a space of knowledge, becomes closely
linked to a way of perceiving reality, in total correlation with poetic
language. We thus conceive the poem as an epiphanic dimension where
even the most mundane things acquire new meanings, hitherto hidden,
invisible to the human eye: it is through writing that Octavio Paz
shows us the becoming of a simultaneous world, which we would not
know were it not for this reformulation of the divine fact as a poetic fact.
